Tell Dan is the traditional northern end of the Kingdom of Israel thru the time of David and Solomon.  It is located at the base of Mount Hermon and it's springs are some of the strongest in the area, and one of the major sources for the Jordan river.  During the Divided Kingdom, it was one of the locations of the altars and golden calves built by King Jeroboam.
